Ontario University Athletics (OUA) has announced its 2025 Men's Soccer All-Stars and Major Award winners, with the Trent Excalibur earning historic recognition following a standout season. 

First-year striker John Moncada (Scarborough, ON) was named East Division Most Valuable Player, marking the first time in program history that a Trent men's soccer player has captured the prestigious award. Head coach Grant Purdy, who took over the Excalibur program in 2019, was also honoured as the East Division Coach of the Year, becoming just the second Trent coach to receive the title, after Marvin Buchan in 1991. 

Moncada's debut season was nothing short of exceptional. The Business Administration student led the OUA in scoring, finding the back of the net 14 times in 11 games, the most ever recorded by a player in their first Excalibur season. His consistent finishing ability and composure in key moments placed him first nationally in goals and tied for first in points across U SPORTS, while also earning a spot on the OUA First All-Star Team. Moncada's record-setting year also propelled him to third all-time on the Excalibur men's soccer leaderboard for goals scored. 

Purdy guided the Excalibur through a record-breaking campaign, leading the team to its best season in program history with a 6-5-1 record and a berth in the OUA playoffs for the first time since 2016. His steady leadership, player development, and tactical approach have been instrumental in building a culture of competitiveness and growth within the men's soccer program, setting a new benchmark for success at Trent. 

Third-year striker Leo Frans (Ottawa, ON) was named an OUA Second Team All-Star after another strong campaign for the green and white. The Forensic Science student tallied eight goals this season, finishing tied for fifth in the OUA, and now sits first on the all-time Excalibur men's soccer goals list with 18 career tallies. 

On the defensive side, Noah Carew (Whitby, ON) earned a Second Team All-Star nod for his consistent play and leadership in the back line. The third-year Business Administration student was a key piece of Trent's defensive structure, anchoring a group that showed poise and resilience throughout the season. 

In the midfield, Caleb Chartres (Oshawa, ON) was also recognized as an OUA Second Team All-Star. The third-year Commerce student brought energy and control to the center of the pitch, contributing on both sides of the ball and played an essential role in connecting Trent's attack. 

The 2025 season marked a defining chapter for the Trent Excalibur men's soccer program, one that set new standards, broke program records, and showcased the growing strength of the green and white on the provincial stage.
