The Men's & Women's Curling Teams travelled to St. Catharines, ON for the Brock Invitational Exhibition Bonspiel this past weekend. On the Men's side there were 12 different teams competing, and Trent Men had 4 games. They lost their first two games on Saturday against Ryerson and Waterloo, but rebounded with a win against McMaster Sunday morning. They ended up tying a strong Western squad in the afternoon. The team put forth a solid effort all around, with many close games. On the women's side, there were 11 different teams competing, with 4 games for the Trent women. Despite strong efforts, the women were narrowly defeated in all 4 games, with losses coming against Western, Guelph, Ryerson and Toronto.
The Men had a strong performance with a couple of bad ends, which ended up costing them the two losses. They were pleased with their play other than that, and were very competitive with the other teams despite the lopsided appearance of the losses. This was a great opportunity for teams to see the competition that they will face at the OUA championships at Guelph in two weeks time! They are hopeful to make a run at playoffs this year at the OUA's.
As for the women, it was tough for them to go 0-4, but there were definitely positives to take away from the weekend, and they held their own in most of the games. They put forth a strong performance against U of T Sunday afternoon, to end out the weekend on a good note! It's always a learning experience for everyone on both teams to compete at this level. The Men's team consisted of Brad Robinson, Derek Hutcheson, Dillon Muldoon, Matt Hill, and Ryan Davis. The Women's team consisted of Jenn Wale, Olivia Huber, Bailey McInroy, Caitlyn Mabee, and Sarah Day.
See the Curling Team in action again in two weeks, as they travel to Guelph for the OUA Championships!
