With returning and new student-athletes, Trent Excalibur Rowing excited to hit the water; build on their growing rowing community
New school year, new season, new head coach. There's a lot to be excited about for the Trent Excalibur team 2021/2022 season about to get underway, it only adds to the excitement as they return to the water.
Their season gets underway this weekend on Sunday, September 26, as they visit push off the docks of the Rideau Canal in Ottawa for the Head of the Rideau Regatta.
With rowers like Rosalyn Shepherd, Abbigail Sibbald, Grace VandenBroek and the core of experienced rowers welcoming in a new group of novice student-athletes, the eagerness to return to competition and just being back on the water with the team can be felt throughout the group.
"It feels really good to be back, seeing old friends and new faces as well," said Rosalyn Shepherd. "Our team is about to get even bigger with our recruited novices so that's really exciting."
Aside from the competition, the Excalibur looks to grow the family as they weren't able to welcome novice's onto the team last season. With the early morning practices and working as a team on the water, the bond gets stronger as the season goes on.
"That's one of the highlights of the team," Shepherd continued. "We are a huge team, a big family and the way we get up early every morning and work hard brings everyone really close, so I'm excited to build that community."
The Excalibur rowing team will return from Ottawa and get ready to host the Head of the Trent Regatta hosted by the Peterborough Rowing Club, next weekend on Saturday, October 2!
